Fire Classification
Whether a material burns rapidly is laid out in the European standard BS EN 13501-1.
Fire Classes
Both for floor surfaces and non-floor surfaces there are seven fire classes: A1, A2, B, C, D, E and F. For floors the letters “fl” (= floor) are added. A1 is the highest category: these materials make no contribution to a fire. Products with very low combustible components are in A2, etc.
Smoke Development
Besides the classification of fire development and spread, information on the classification of smoke are defined. There are 3 different classes for smoke spread:
s1: Low smoke generation
s2: Average smoke production
s3: High smoke generation.
Moso has tested its flooring products tested on fire properties (for the mandatory CE marking). The obtained results can be found in the product sheets (all products are either class C or D, and s1).
For wall and ceiling applications the fire class depends on the construction (the chosen support, adhesives and finishes). Since MOSO only supplies the semi finished product for these applications (like panels, veneer, tambour) the fire norms of this material are not relevant.
